šµ Limiting social media for GW and May
I'm taking a page out of Michael Klamerus' book and limiting my social media presence for Golden Week and May. I've been spending way too much time scrolling through Tusky and not enough time studying for the JLPT N1 (š ), to the point that I completely missed the deadline to register for the July exam and thus need to wait until December1.
I can't completely disconnect from social media since I need to pop in and help curb Nicole spam2. So what I am planning to do instead is uninstall the Tusky and Bluesky apps from my phone and only check social media on my computer, where I've already got LeechBlock set up to prevent myself from scrolling too much.
I'm also hoping that limiting how long and how often I can just throw up random thoughts on social media might encourage me to make longer and more thoughtful blog posts. It's hard to unlearn the habits of microblogging3 but maybe this will help even a tiny bit.
You can as always contact me by leaving comments directly on these here blog posts, or by sending me an e-mail. You can also find me on Discord as renkotsuban. I am trying to get better at checking my Discord messages!! I promise to stop getting distracted and leaving folks on read, aaaaa
If you have a blog or website, please do send me the address so I can add you to the Links section and/or my RSS reader. Also, if you don't have a blog or website, please consider starting one! That way you too can take breaks from social media without needing to give up Posting š
Anyway this self-imposed limitation starts now and will last until May 31. If all goes well, I may extend this indefinitely, but first, gotta make it through GW without succumbing to temptation...
Speaking of GW
#Today Daikon went to his office (BOO) but on Monday he's planning to work from home (YAY), Tuesday is a national holiday (YIPPEE), and he's planning to take Wed-Fri off so that we can have a proper Golden Week (HIP HIP) meaning the next time he goes back to the office will be May 7 (HOORAY).
We don't have any major plans since everywhere is bound to be clogged with traffic and tourists, so instead we will be going on small adventures around town. Thanks to Cindy Xiao's recommendation, I have installed the Merlin Bird ID app to my phone and have been looking up some cool birds to look out for around town. I've also been inspired to get into birding thanks to Japanese Birder Miki. Specifically, this video on spotting 30 kinds of birds in the spring:
I've also been getting back into anime, and revived my Anilist account. I already have a bunch of blog posts I need to write with my Thoughts on certain series, ahaha.
Anyway, that's it for this time!
Wait, aren't you forgetting something?
#Oh, right. I haven't done one of these in forever, have I? Here's your daily dose of Henry:
I shall be back SOON with another blog post, I hope!!
